I was initially thought of as a bright kid and a quick learner, but as I grew older, I started to find it hard to study and retain facts and I didn’t do quite as well as expected in my major exams. Plus I found the subjects dull and uninteresting – or in the case of maths, totally beyond me! It was only very recently that someone remarked to me that “my brain didn’t work the same way as other people” and the way I learnt things was totally different to the standard way they taught things in school, which I thought hit the nail right on the head.

 

I also had no idea what I wanted to do when I grew up – or at least nothing that was deemed “a suitable career”, and all that meant that I sort of fell into working as a Legal Secretary/Legal Executive. It wasn’t what made my heart sing though, and I realised at the age of 33 that I was just existing, not living my life. I wasn’t passionate about what I did and I was changing jobs every six months because I was downright bored.

 

And then one day during my daily commute, I thought, I need to do something about this, if I don’t do it now, how will I ever know if I can? By the end of the day I had taken the plunge, applied to the Tisserand Institute in London to do a Diploma in Holistic Aromatherapy, and resigned from my current job. I qualified as a holistic aromatherapist in 2000 and over the following years, I gradually added other modalities to that, including Indian Head Massage and Reflexology. But, although I enjoyed this, I realised that it wasn’t quite right, I still hadn’t found my passion.

 

And then I discovered energy healing. I initially trained in Reiki and then Crystal Healing, during which I discovered that I was actually working intuitively rather than just following the prescribed way of learning what crystal does what. I realised that I was actually selecting the crystals for a client before they even came through the door and told me what they were seeking help with, and then finding out that the crystals I had chosen were exactly the ones that worked with the client’s issue. I knew then that I was finally on my right path and I haven’t looked back since.

 

I am always learning, always finding new paths to go down within my healing, developing my intuitive healing even further. I find that the shamanic way of healing really resonates with me and my path may now be heading in this direction. Having used a shamanic drum as part of some of my treatments, I have recently progressed further and undertaken studies in Ceremonial Sound Healing, incorporating sound baths and sound massage, putting me on the first step of my next exciting adventure…
